Happy Friday my vibe family, and welcome back. Today, I am happy to announce that I will be returning back to nature to run free with the animals and spirits. Just kidding, but I am going camping. As an herbalist in training I am fascinated with all nature has to offer from medicine, resources, and serenity, nature has it all! That’s why I’m going deep in the forest in the middle of nowhere to escape city life, and recharge my batteries. And let’s face it, a vacation never hurt anyone. And I know what you’re thinking, but don’t worry if I meet Jason, Freddie, or any other psychotic killer along the way, I’ll make sure to get their autograph! But before I go on my hippie retreat, I wanted to share a few tips that I use to help combat the other, less threating dangers of the outdoors. Enjoy!

Bug Repellant

Raise of hands, who likes mosquitoes, ticks, and flies. That’s what I thought, no one. So, to keep them at bay use the following essential oils, guaranteed to bug the hell out of them (Ha! Bug, see what I did there?).

  • Peppermint

  • Lavender

  • Eucalyptus

  • Cinnamon

  • Geranium

  • Cedarwood

Sunblock

When it comes to protecting your skin from the sun, a lot of people flock to the store brand sunscreen. Unaware of the harmful chemicals that might be absorbed into your skin, rather than sunlight. For a cheaper, healthier, and more convenient approach try, lathering yourself up in some precious coconut oil. That’s right, coconut oil is here to save the day again. In all seriousness, coconut oil has an SPF of 4 which blocks 75% of ultraviolet which is considered low. But remember the point isn’t to block ALL sun exposer, for the sun gives off vital energy and not enough can result in vitamin D deficiency.

  • Coconut oil- good for 45 minutes of sun exposer.

Edibles

Before going out into the wilderness, I would hope that you would pack a few snacks. But if your stomach is growling, don’t worry you don’t have to go all man vs wild and eat grubs and dead carcasses. Just look to see what nature has already provided for you. Here are a few common herbs that you can eat if need be. (Disclaimer: be cautious of allergies)

  • Dandelion

  • Wild Clover

  • Burdock

  • Cattail

  • Chicory

There you have it! A few effortless ways to go green while protecting yourself while enjoying the outside world. So, have fun, be positive, and remember, there’s nothing wrong with going green!
