CATCH ME

“Everyone remembers their first and last experiences, whatever they are. Whether it’s love, heartbreak, death, or in my case, murder.”  I said to her.

I sat in her office, legs crossed, hands folded in my lap. I wasn’t confessing my crimes in a feeble attempt to save my life, but because I needed to get my story out. I needed to tell her what happened.

I tried to imagine what she saw when she looked at me. Did she only see the exterior, a woman in her mid-twenties with caramel colored skin, long jet-black hair and deep blue eyes? Or did she see into my soul, did she see the assassin, the killer who took assignments to eliminate people without a second thought? I hope she saw the latter because that is my true self, that is who they made.

Before The Order captured me, I worked for an organization called UGF. I had worked for them for ten years as an assassin. I thought they were the good guys, eliminating the world of all the evil people in it one assignment at a time. I thought I was doing a service to all of humanity, but I was wrong. UGF was the bad guys, in truth, the were the ultimate evil on earth and they used me to kill off anyone who knew their true motive.

When they found me I was sick, alone, and weak. They used experimental drugs on me to make me better, to enhance my abilities and in turn all I had to do for them was work to make the world a better place. How could I say no. By the time they finished with me I could think clearer, see better, run faster, and hear crisper. Not to mention I had the ability to create and manipulate ice. I can literally create an ice ball, ice bullet, ice lasso out of thin air. So, in my mind, I owed UGF my life and there was nothing I wouldn’t do for them.

“Who was your first kill, Erin?” Mary asked.

“Jafar Umbaca.”

“How old were you and how did you kill him?”

“I was sixteen. His daughter was having a slumber party,” I shook my head, “It was rather easy actually. I walked right in as if I belonged there. From reading his file I knew he was allergic to aspirin so I made my way to his master suite, mixed some aspirin with his toothpaste, and walked back out. I made sure to dress in pj’s in case I was stopped, I would just say I got separated from the other girls, but no one even noticed me.”

“What did UGF tell you he did?” Her voice was so soft, so soothing.

“They told me he was the man responsible for the death of my parents.”

“So, you did to his daughter what you thought he did to you?

“I did, yes. I thought he was an evil man, but ultimately I did exactly what he did.” My fingers tightened around one another.

“Were they pleased with your work?” She asked.

“Of course. After that I had one assignment after the other. I am… was, good at what I did.”

“I’ve heard, tell me about the others. Actually, start at the beginning, start from when you first arrived at UGF headquarters.”
